Reflection

For my very last blog post I would like to reflect back on how this semester went. First off I would like to state that Health Care Management Two was one of my favorite classes this semester. This class has taught me more then I ever imagined about myself, how to work with others, and important pieces about working in an organization. All of these will be extremely valuable for myself as I head out into my first internship this summer. This class was organized into three different parts: individual, group, and organization. I think the structure of this class was very well thought out and couldn’t have been set up in a better way. I had never analyzed my own behavior and how it may effect others and my own work. This was a great way to start because once an understanding of yourself is developed, it makes learning how to work in a group much easier. After developing the people to people skills, our class then began understanding how ourselves and groups of people al...

Company Culture

I have been reading many of my peers blogs recently and a lot of them have written about company culture. There was a class presentation on this topic and I think it really changed people’s mindsets when applying to jobs. For myself, it was not really something I had thought about, but after learning about it, it makes a lot of sense. Everybody likes to work in different environments, and this can make or break the ability to enjoy work and be able to make progress while at work. When you go into an interview it is very important to take note of the “vibe” of the place. I took this vey seriously this past week when I had two interviews a day after each other.             These two interviews were both in healthcare, however I got complete different feelings from the two. In the first interview, things were taken more seriously. I was led into an office and was asked typical interview questions. It was more forma...

Crisis Management

A crisis can happen at anytime and anywhere. This is why I think one of the most beneficial classes we had in management two was on crisis management. While a crisis is terrible no matter what the case, in a healthcare setting there should be even more caution. I am a big fan of the show Greys Anatomy, and in this show while it is fiction, they depict crisis’s very well. They have shown on site shooters, a computer hack, a fire in the building, and so much more. Of course the point of these are to create drama within the television show, it also does highlight some accurate steps that would have to be taken when such casualties occur. One basic rule of thumb shown in Greys Anatomy, but also applies in real life is to act early. This is very crucial in handling the media, because news reporters will be on site sooner then expected, and the earlier someone within the organization can put a statement out, the better things will be handled. Nothing is worse then lettin...
