Thoughts on emotional intelligence

On Monday afternoon during my management class, I was educated on emotional intelligence. This was once again a subject I have not reflected on much at all, so a lot of self knowledge was learned. Prior to this class we were instructed to take a quiz which rated the four parts of emotional intelligence: 1. self-awareness 2. self-management 3. social-awareness 4. relationship management, these scores were out of ten and I scored three on all of them except social-awareness which was only a four. These are extremely low but, I think it's not completely accurate because there were only two options to choose from for each question, but it does say something about myself. I guess since I never thought much about emotional intelligence, it resulted in me lacking it. But, after their presentation I realized I can grow and improve myself. Specifically in relationship management, I have been trying to work on the components that make it effective. One of the big parts of it that effect my...

Resilience

This past Wednesday three of my peers presented on the topic of resilience. Prior to their presentation, I had not really thought about my own resilience and how it effects my own life socially and academically. It was quite intriguing because I realized my personal resilience is very present in my day to day activities. One major aspect was the ability to accept change. I have never been good at adapting to new things because I like the familiarity and safety of no change. This is where I could build up resilience. As a college student, I struggle with this the most when a new semester starts. This is because I become enrolled in all new classes at all different times in different buildings. When this happens, I also am forced to alter my work schedule around these classes. It takes me about a month to fully accept and feel comfortable with a whole new daily schedule. I would like to increase my resilience so it won't take me as long as a month to adapt. When I am adapted to somet...

Individual Creativity

Hello fellow readers! This blog will be following the course Health Care Management II taught at the University of New Hampshire. I am a junior at UNH, and this is my second management course. In my first course, writing a blog was a requirement, just as it is this semester. So this is my second blog I have published and I believe I can do even better then the last. For my first post, I thought it would be a good idea to talk about Individual Creativity. In this class, myself and others have to present on this subject so I have done quite the amount of research on it. The main thing I have learned is how important creativity is in the work field. It can be applied to when a company needs to change their brand, when a manager needs to motivate its employees, or when faced with a financial crisis. There are countless scenarios where creativity levels are challenged which is why it is important to understand how to get the creativity vibes flowing. One method my coworkers and I discover...
