Resilience

This past Wednesday three of my peers presented on the topic of resilience. Prior to their presentation, I had not really thought about my own resilience and how it effects my own life socially and academically. It was quite intriguing because I realized my personal resilience is very present in my day to day activities. One major aspect was the ability to accept change. I have never been good at adapting to new things because I like the familiarity and safety of no change. This is where I could build up resilience. As a college student, I struggle with this the most when a new semester starts. This is because I become enrolled in all new classes at all different times in different buildings. When this happens, I also am forced to alter my work schedule around these classes. It takes me about a month to fully accept and feel comfortable with a whole new daily schedule. I would like to increase my resilience so it won't take me as long as a month to adapt. When I am adapted to something I flourish more and can take on more and more challenges. The less time it takes to do this, the more I can conquer.
I especially need to increase my resilience when I graduate because I will have no idea what comes next for me after graduation. I will no longer be taking classes but will be put into the work field which is immensely different then college life. I am very happy my classmates were able to lecture on this subject because now that I am aware of resilience, I'm going to start making changes to better off myself.

  1. I enjoyed their class, too. It's good to know yourself and what takes you out of your comfort zone. All of us have different things that trigger a sense of weakness or loss. It's good to know what those are for you, since everyone's is different.
