Self Awareness
I just read this article titled, People Don't Actually Know Themselves Very Well, that Professor Bonica shared with our class. It was a very interesting read because the whole article provided altercations to a lot of key concepts I had about self awareness. I don't just want to summarize what was said in the article, because if anyone wants to read it, the link is at the bottom of this post, however I would like to touch upon the main point being, your coworkers know your strengths and weaknesses more then you do. Most of my past job experience has been nannying and short term jobs in the food industry so I can't really self reflect on this one, but I do agree with this article.
For the past couple months I have been going through the process of finding an internship and I have been asking my friends what they think I'm best and worst at and it has been interesting to hear their feedback. The article says coworkers are great at saying who you truly are because they don't try to see only the positives about you like friends and family might. I think at the stage I'm at with my friends we truly don't mind being brutally honest with each other, so I would say my friends judgement on my personality is decently accurate. With that being said, when I am in a workplace with long lasting coworkers I hope I can take any advice from them that might help improve my work skills. I believe as a manager it is important to self reflect and have others reflect on your own performances, because like this article stated, everyone always wants to see the best in themselves, so much so, that they might not see the downfalls.

Glad you read the article and found it useful. Last year some of the students had us ask friends or family to take some of the personality tests for us as if they were us. I thought that was clever.
